Perry Bakas

Chief Executive Officer | Co-Founder

Perry is a mechanical engineer with years of experience in manufacturing, design, & energy asset development. He started his career in product development before switching into commercial strategy and acquisitions at AES Clean Energy, where he acquired & built hundreds of megawatts of solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects. He previously worked as an investor for two climate venture capital firms. He has a MBA from Yale School of Management & a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Conor Rooney

Chief Technology Officer | Co-Founder

Conor is an electrochemist experienced in catalysis, materials science, and reactor engineering. In Conor’s doctoral work, he developed the most efficient CO2 electrolysis to methanol, publishing more than 15 scientific articles in leading journals and authoring a patent on the topic, forming the foundation of Oxylus Energy's technology. Conor has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Yale University where his dissertation earned the Richard Wolfgang prize for most distinguished in the department. He also holds a BS in Chemistry from Pomona College.

Dr. Bo Shang

Founding Engineer

Bo is a materials scientist and electrochemical engineer with years of experience in catalysis, electrolyzer testing and manufacturing, and process scale up. As a PhD Candidate at Yale University under Hailiang Wang, Bo helped develop and test the catalyst for CO2 electrolysis to methanol. He has published more than 20 scientific articles in leading journals including ACS Energy Letters, ACS Catalysis, Angewandte Chemie, Nature Synthesis, and the Journal of the American Chemical Society, where his work has been cited over 400 times. He is also the author of one patent. Bo has a BS in Condensed Matter and Materials Science with honors from Jilin University.

Dr. Jose Alvarez Hernandez

R&D Team Lead

Jose is an electrochemist and inorganic chemist with years of experience in catalyst design and modification, electrocatalysis, and organometallic chemistry. Before joining Oxylus Energy, Jose was a postdoc at Yale University working as part of the Center for Hybrid Approaches in Solar Energy to Liquid Fuels (CHASE), a Department of Energy research hub. He is an expert in CO2 reduction, hydrogen evolution, and catalysis. Jose has published more than 10 scientific articles in leading journals. He has a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Rochester with a BS in Nuclear and Radiochemistry from University of Havana.

Kellie McCrea

Electrochemical Engineer

Kellie is an electrochemical engineer with expertise in Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers for green hydrogen production. Before joining Oxylus Energy, Kellie developed hands-on experience in electrolyzer testing, diagnostics, and manufacturing, and is published in ACS Catalysis for her work on electrocatalyst structures related to the oxygen evolution reaction. In addition to her work on electrolyzers and fuel cells at Plug Power, Kellie contributed to research at the University of Rochester on nanocatalysts for CO₂ reduction and atmospheric chemistry modeling. She holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rochester, with a minor in Environmental Engineering.

Dr. Anthony Deziel

Electrochemist

Tony is an electrochemist and inorganic chemist with years of experience in CO2 utilization, catalysis, and organometallic synthesis. Before joining Oxylus Energy, Tony was a graduate student researcher at Yale University, where he synthesized value-added chemicals from CO2. He is an expert in transition metal catalysis, spectroscopy, and reaction kinetics. Tony has published 8 scientific articles in leading journals including the Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie, and Chemical Science, where his work has been cited over 85 times. Tony has a PhD in Chemistry from Yale University and a BS in Chemistry from University of Notre Dame.

Kajini Sandrakumar

Electrochemical Engineer

Kajini is an electrochemical engineer with experience with membrane development, thin-film production, 3D design/prototyping, and electrodialysis.  Before joining Oxylus, she worked on separating critical metals and purifying water through electrochemical membranes with ChemFinty Technologies. In addition, she contributed to research at New York University and is published in ACS Inorganic Chemistry for her work in developing double-perovskite films using Physical Vapor Deposition to increase efficiency of solar cells. Kajini holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from NYU Tandon.

Logan Hammond

Electrochemical Engineer

Logan is an electrochemical engineer with experience in clean energy generation, hydrogen production, and carbon capture. He has worked on multiple electrochemical optimization projects, including at RWTH Aachen University developing a pathway for hydrogen production from glycerol, and at JTEC Energy improving the thermal efficiency of a novel heat engine. In addition, he competed in the ChemE Cube Competition designing, building, and testing a small-scale Direct Air Capture system, accompanied later by an electrochemical fuel recycling component. He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with a minor in Nuclear Science and Engineering.

Dr. Eleanor Stewart-Jones

Ellie is an electrochemist with years of experience in inorganic and materials chemistry. Before joining Oxylus, Ellie was a graduate student in the Mayer lab at Yale University where she created a new type of hybrid photocatalyst as a part of the Center for Hybrid Approaches in Solar Energy to Liquid Fuels, a Department of Energy research hub. She is an expert in porous silicon and attended the Summer School for Silicon Nanotechnology as a graduate student. During her Ph.D. she has published in leading journals including the Journal of the American Chemical Society and Chem. She has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Yale University and a B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in French from the University of Kansas.

Ray Mattioli

Head of Business Development

Ray is a mechanical-engineer-turned-MBA with nearly a decade of experience spanning heavy industry, rail technology, and climatetech. At Oxylus Energy he develops commercial strategy, pairing business development with technoeconomic analysis. Previously, Ray guided French rail-tech firm IKOS through its U.S. expansion, winning several multimillion-dollar contracts, and managed large-scale steel and copper machinery projects in the metallurgical sector. His systems-thinking lens has informed sustainable seafood procurement in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront and sparked the founding of SpectReel, a venture developing low-cost spectroscopy for food authenticity. Ray holds his MBA from the Yale School of Management and his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

Amy Duffuor

Azolla Ventures

Amy Duffuor is co-founder and General Partner of Azolla Ventures. Amy is also a Managing Director at Prime Impact Fund, Azolla Ventures’ predecessor vehicle. Her professional background spans business, finance, and impact across three continents. Earlier in her career, Amy was a renewables and power investment banker at Bank of America. There, she worked with CEOs of public and private companies to raise investment capital including the IPO of Sunnova (NYSE: NOVA), a residential solar company initially valued at approximately $1 billion. Before her career on Wall Street, Amy ran early-stage social venture accelerators around Southeast Asia for a Singapore-headquartered impact investing firm called Impact Investment Exchange. Prior to working in Asia, Amy was a management consultant at State of Flux, a London-based consulting firm that specializes in supply chain and procurement. Amy is on the board of the Alliance for Climate Transition (ACT); the Leadership Council of Activate, a nonprofit that empowers scientists to bring their research to market to address climate change; the Advisory Council of ReFED, a national nonprofit focused on food waste; and the Advisory Board of GreenTech Noir, a global community for Black people working in sustainability and climate tech. Amy received the Department of Energy’s 2024 C3E Award in Finance & Investment and was listed as one of Fortune’s 2023 Top 13 Seed Stage Climate Tech VCs to watch. She holds a B.A. in Urban Studies from Columbia University, an M.Phil in Migration Studies with Distinction from the University of Oxford, and an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Lisa Coca

Toyota Ventures

Lisa Coca is a partner for Toyota Ventures where she leads the firm’s Climate Fund, which focuses on investing in innovative solutions for carbon neutrality. Prior to Toyota, Lisa served as a managing director and entrepreneur-in-residence with Intel’s emerging growth and incubations division where she led teams creating disruptive new businesses. Lisa was also a founding member of GE Ventures, responsible for launching and leading the enterprise software investment practice, as well as the EDGE program, a platform for portfolio companies to leverage the global scale, expertise, and resources of GE. Previously, Lisa developed her passion for climate as the global sustainability and Ecomagination leader for GE real estate where she launched a program to leverage technology and operating best practices to reduce the environmental impact of its assets and improve financial performance. She has also held multiple roles focused on strategy, innovation and new businesses. She serves on the board of trustees for the Girls Middle School and as independent board director for Apollo Realty Income Solutions. Lisa graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with Honors, and earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Dorian West is an Operating Partner for Ajax Strategies. He is a Senior Engineering Advisor currently helping various companies after spending 25 years leading highly successful engineering teams in scale-up of climatetech & electrolyzer solutions.  He was most recently a Co-Founder and EVP of Engineering at Electric Hydrogen.  Prior to Electric Hydrogen, he was Director of Engineering at Tesla where he most notably guided teams to develop products from the original Roadster to the Semi.  Dorian graduated from Stanford University with a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering.

Henry Heitzer

Henry leads the market intelligence function of Earth Foundry, identifying early innovation trends, evaluating the market potential of investment opportunities, and setting the fund's investment thesis. Henry’s passion for learning new technologies and how they can be used in creating new businesses is key to this role. Prior to joining Earth Foundry, Henry spent six years as a strategy consultant for Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in the Chicago office. Henry focused on Industrials (Chemicals / Materials, Ag) primarily working within the Corporate Development practice area (portfolio / growth strategy, M&A). Henry received his PhD in Chemistry from Northwestern University where he focused on developing theoretical techniques to accelerate development of new organic electronic materials for application in semiconductors and photovoltaics. Henry has a BA from Carleton College in Mathematics and Chemistry.

Konstantine Drakonakis

Connecticut Innovations

Konstantine is a managing director of investments for Connecticut Innovations, focusing on climate and adaptation technology ventures. He manages CI’s $100 million ClimateTech Fund (CT Fund) to help Connecticut reach its decarbonization goals and create even more high-paying jobs. Konstantine has been a venture capitalist and entrepreneur for the past 16 years, specializing in climate and deep tech ventures. Prior to private equity, he was a professional environmental engineer, working on ecosystem restoration and civil works projects. Konstantine is a partner with the Pritzker Vlock Family Office, where he was a founding member of LaunchCapital, the firm’s early-stage-focused venture firm. He developed a portfolio of 40 companies, representing over 100 transactions and more than $750 million in syndication. Konstantine has also been a founder and operator of four tech companies: 6K, Katharos, PlazMod and PCTRx. He is a board member/director at 6K (founding executive chairman and former CSO), EpiEP, Biorez, TearSolutions and Iridia. Konstantine is also an active member in the university entrepreneurial ecosystem, where he is a lecturer, mentor and adviser to students and faculty ventures at UConn and Yale University. Konstantine has a BSCE from the University of Vermont and a master’s in environmental management from the Yale School of Environment, where he focused on closed-loop economy systems and markets. He is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Connecticut.
